50 Year Anniversary of the Whiskey a Go Go
On Wednesday, January 15, 2014, an historic concert was held at the
Saban Theater in Beverly Hills, CA commemorating Johnny Rivers' opening
night at the Whiskey a Go Go exactly 50 years before. Johnny looked and
sounded great. Here is the final encore - Bob Marley's "One Love" and
the traditional folk song "Can the Circle Be Unbroken" Here is the song
list that I recall "Midnight Special," "Seventh Son," "Chicago Bound,"
"Down at the House of Blues," "The Snake," "Poor Side of Town," "Summer
Rain," "Memphis," "Maybellene," "Mountain of Love," "Secret Agent Man,"
"Baby I Need Your Lovin," "Swayin' to the Music," "Tracks of My Tears,"
"Rockin' Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu," "Another Lullaby" (duet
with Jimmy Webb), "Route 66," "Whole Lotta Shakin Goin On."

Interview on "Entertainment Tonight". (Bob Dylan's Chronicles Vol. One)
Interview on "Entertainment Tonight". (Bob Dylan's Chronicles Vol. One, Quote):
"Of all the versions of my recorded songs, the Johnny Rivers one was my favorite. It was obvious that we were from the same side of town, had been read the same citations, came from the same musical family and were cut from the same cloth. When I listened to Johnny's version of "Positively 4th Street," I liked his version better than mine. I listened to it over and over again........When I heard Johnny sing my song, it was obvious that life had the same external grip on him as it did on me."
